Cars in German City Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were notified by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.

An important official said the incident left him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
