Her Royal Highness has organised her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to young musicians aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now a student at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

This annual carol service will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
